GIVING BACK

At Pink Chicken, we spend our days thinking about mothers and daughters/sons. What makes them happy? How can we help them express their style? What can we do to make their lives a little cheerier, a little easier, a little more colorful? We’re so grateful for the community of loyal customers and devotees we’ve built over the years! As a way of sharing that joy and expressing our gratitude, we do our best to give back to the community through charities that mean the most to us.
Three organizations stand out as our favorites because of their commitment to helping mothers and children in need:
Good Plus Foundation, Cookies for Kids Cancer, and Colombia Orphanage.

Cookies for kids' cancer

When 2-year-old Liam Witt was diagnosed with childhood cancer in 2007, his parents Larry and Gretchen were shocked to learn of the lack of effective treatments for pediatric cancers due to lack of funding. They pledged to support the funding of research for safer, more effective treatments for children battling cancer. With the help of 250 volunteers, his mom Gretchen baked and sold 96,000 cookies, raising more than $400,000 for research.
Word spread, and people nationwide began asking, “How can I help?”

Cookies for Kids Cancer, a national 501(c)3 non-profit, is committed to raising for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer, the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. They provide inspiration and support for individuals, businesses, and organizations to raise funds by hosting grassroots bake sales and other fundraising events.

To do our part we host annual bake sales at our Amagansett store along with our friend and board member Michelle Jassem. The kids look so forward to it every year. As they have gotten older they plan exactly what they want to bake, what they think kids will like, and spend the day selling our goods all over Amagansett. It’s a very simple way to get your kids involved and making real difference. We encourage everyone to host a bake sale in your community! Check out CookiesforKidsCaner.org for details!

Good + Foundation

Good Plus Foundation Partners with a national network of leading programs to break the cycle of family poverty through the power of donated goods and service. GOOD+ Foundation (formally Baby Buggy) was founded in 2001 by Jessica Seinfeld shortly after the birth of her first child. Since their founding, their primary goal has been to provide low-income parents with essential tools - cribs, car seats, strollers, diapers - to maintain the health and safety of their children. Fifteen years later and nearly 20 million items donated, their work has expanded to support the whole family - mothers, fathers, babies, and other siblings - and their network of antipoverty programs has expanded nationally to over 100 programs. They work with these antipoverty programs through an incentive - based model that offers long - term support to parents and children in need.

Pink Chicken is proud to be a small part of the work they are doing. We have donated over 3000 pieces of clothing to Good Plus Foundation and also host diaper drives in our stores and are proud to be a diaper drop off location in NYC and LA. For more information see goodplusfoundation.org.

Voces Humanas

Christina, our senior designer is first generation Colombian-American from Bogotá where her mother was born & raised before moving to the U.S. to attend college. While growing up Christina & her sister spent every summer staying with her Abuela in Bogotá, a city that will always hold a special place in her heart.
Christina will never forget seeing young children called, “gaminos” with ripped clothing & without shoes digging through huge dumpsters of garbage looking for food. Gamín, is a word used in Colombia to describe indigent children who live on the streets.

Back in 2014, when we were putting boxes together to donate our clothing, Christina immediately thought of Colombia & the faces of the gaminos she remembers seeing as a young girl. Luckily, she knows two amazing women that gave us the opportunity to give back to such an amazing country. Christina’s cousin, also named Cristina is the founder of an organization called, Fundación Voces Humanas (Foundation of Human Voices), which is a group of professionals of the social sciences who volunteer their time to serve their community in different social capacities, one of which is donating clothing. Additionally, Christina has stayed in contact with Sor Aurora, a nun who travels to orphanages and small pueblos outside of Bogotá donating clothing & other necessities to children in need. Christina named a dress “Aurora” in our SS ’18 collection in her honor.
