Co-Founded by Guatemalan native and mom of two, Gisa Heinz, who wanted to create a brand that reflected her Latin American roots. Folklore Las Niñas offers unique and modern designs made with artisanal textiles from Latin America, for girls up to 12 years, as well as matching sets for moms. Devoted to giving back to her home country, Folklore Las Niñas has partnered with Ecofiltro, a non-profit providing clean drinking water to children in rural Guatemala.
About the Embroidery & the Women Behind It:
Each piece is hand embroidered in Patzún, Chimaltenango by a local group of women. The embroidery technique is what is called a 'Paya', each embroidery takes 4-6 days to make, so these women pour their heart and soul into each and every piece they create.
Each woman first draws in raw textile, and then proceeds to sew. These women work from their homes so they can continue to care for their families. All of the hours spent on their creations allow them to connect with what is truly a piece of art.
